Allen Neighborhood Center’s Kitchens Program brings neighbors together to cook, learn, and celebrate Lansing’s diverse foodways through hands-on workshops, PopUps, training opportunities, and showcase events that uplift our Makers, local industry professionals and neighbors alike.

Dine & Discovery

ANC is proud to offer our Dine & Discovery cooking workshops to its neighbors, highlighting the diverse skills of Makers in our Incubator Kitchens Program and local chefs. Neighbors are invited to the Maker Kitchen to create, learn and dine together in celebration of the diverse foodways of the Lansing area.

Maker Showcase Events

Join us throughout the year for our Maker Showcase events! From a tasting menu with each course crafted by a different Maker to food fairs and cook offs, we host events to show off the talent and diverse backgrounds of Makers in our Incubator Kitchens Program and to raise funds to further the Allen Neighborhood Center’s mission to serve Lansing’s Eastside neighborhood.

ServSafe Classes & Exams

Allen Neighborhood Center offers ServSafe, a national certification program for those working in food service, specifically managers and leaders. ServSafe teaches about foodborne illness, how to prevent it and how to train employees about the latest food safety issues. The ServSafe Manager course uses proven techniques, provides new Food & Drug Administration food code rules and content related to the food industry.

 

This eight-hour course provides participants with the education to successfully pass the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification exam, which is included in the class.

Our 2026 ServSafe instruction and exam dates are:

January 8, 8am - 6pm

March 12, 8am - 6pm

May 14, 8am - 6pm

August 13, 8am - 6pm

October 8, 8am - 6pm

 

Enrollment is $110, includes a textbook.  Register by Emailing Matt Jones at kitchens@allenneighborhoodcenter.org

Maker Popups

From cozy brunches to tasting dinners, our Makers host exciting PopUps here at ANC. To check out what upcoming PopUps our Makers are cooking up, click here. PopUps are run by the hosting Maker, and contact information for each business can be found in the event details on our events calendar.

Culinary 101

ANC’s Kitchens Program offers a Culinary 101 Training program for aspiring and novice workers in the restaurant industry looking to expand their skills. This eight-week program covers rules and responsibilities in the kitchen, an introduction to kitchen stations, food prep, knife skills, and associated soft skills. It is taught through a mix of hands-on and classroom study. Included in this course is the food safety training and examination for Servsafe Food Protection Manager, at no cost.
