Ben Sommers (He/Him) is the  Veggie Box Manager. He originally moved to Lansing in 2014 for a position with the Greater Lansing Food Bank as manager of the Lansing Roots Incubator Farm Program. After a few years living in the Washington, D.C. area and working as a Farm to School Specialist for Baltimore City Public Schools, he and his partner Laura moved back to the area to be closer to family and friends. He is excited to serve our ANC neighbors and community and provide our Veggie Box members a nutritious, high-quality, and delicious connection to the local food economy; while offering local farmers and producers a robust local market opportunity that helps their businesses thrive.

Ben has spent the past 20+ years working towards community and environmental sustainability, food security, education and being committed to “giving a hand-up” to all people while working in solidarity. He’s been privileged and honored to have done this work in Wisconsin, Nicaragua, Montana and Michigan while serving in a variety of capacities. He spends his time reinvigorating a beautiful farmstead where he lives in Bath, taking road trips to Wisconsin to see family and friends, seeing live music and doing all sorts of outdoor activities, especially those on or near our beautiful Midwest waters.
